'Snuggle Up With Me' Rug

My 'snuggle up with me' rug is now finished and I love it! Colour tones are all very earthy and calming for the eye. It measures 115cm by 85cm so it is big and snuggly. With winter approaching here in Perth, I am really looking forward to those lazy / rainy afternoons when the best thing seems to be making a hot cup of tea, picking up your favorite book and snuggling under a warm and cozy blanket.

I love the tassels in the corners, I think they add that aristocratic feel to it, what do you think?
The wool used in this rug is Patons Inca (50% wool, 30% acrylic, 20% alpaca).

Skills required for making this rug are:
1.) garter stitch
2.) mattress stitch seam
3.) crocheted edging on the whole rug, once completed
4.) making tassels

Etsy Update... 2 month anniversary!

Today marks 2 months that I have been on Etsy and it is mind blowing the amount of things that I have learned in this time, the people/artists that I met and my new awareness of what it takes to run a shop like this. A brief summary of the happenings in my shop:
1.)  I now have 10 items listed - all made for CUSTOM ORDER ONLY
2.)  I have started networking and have met some amazing artists
3.) I have changed my 'avatar' image to make it more eye catching to provoke interest
4.) I have spend more time updating my tags in listings in an attempt to increase the traffic through my shop
.
.
.
and many more! I have defined my shop policies, figured out the shipping costs for various items in my Etsy store, made 6 treasuries and took more time synchronizing the photographic background in my shop to achieve a more coherent feel.

Hence, the current look of my shop is as follows:

My goal is to double the number of items in the next two months, to add volume to the store as well as to increase the variety of the products. Make more and more Treasuries... a very creative way of putting other artists work in one unique collage.

Here is another Treasury that I made just recently - showcasing the wonderful work of several of my favorite Etsians.  It is called- 'COLOUR INSPIRATION'.

Til next time, :)

Personal bag made using the giant knit and crochet technique!

This bag features the front and back side in a giant knit that has a couple of crocheted roses sticking out in between giant stitches. Each side of the bag, front and back, is made with giant knit and lined with black satin that keeps the knitting in place. The bag flap features three layers of fabric in three colors. The main part of the flap is in black soft suede and, just to add interest, there are two strips of linen in green and beige.

This bag is very strong with a strap that is crocheted in one piece. This is a large bag.

CGKS Bag - Bag of Crochet / Giant Knit / Sewing

It really was a lot of fun making this bag. I spent most of today sewing together several bits and pieces that were necessary for this bag. Crochet and giant knit, which make the main part of my bags, this time around needed to be complemented with a flap made using my sewing machine, to balance out the rustic tone of the bag. So, out came my sewing machine and the picture below captures this creative day! I am fairly new to sewing, so it took a long time to make the lining and the flap of the bag neat and professional looking. Hooray for a job well done!!!

I like to have good resources around myself, so the book on sewing by Lisa Stickley that I bought last year came in very  useful indeed.  FANTASTIC BOOK - VERY RESOURCEFUL & full of good tutorials on how to sew different things.

My latest design - a bag flap that keeps the bag safe and is decorative looking at the same time.

This bag features the front and back side in a giant knit so the perfect fit was to make couple of crocheted roses sticking out in between couple of giant stitches. I made roses in this amazing colour green and the other in light sand, so it seemed necessary for the bag flap to reflect these tones, whilst adding some interest to the bag. I JUST LOVE HOW THESE COLOURS WORK TOGETHER :)
Each side of the bag, front and back, are made with giant knit and lined up with black satin that keeps the knitting in place. The bag flap is made out of soft suede in black, and below that is green and sand in natural 100% linen.

This bag is very strong with a strap that is crocheted in one piece. This is a large bag. The base of the bag is 30 cm wide and 20 cm deep and the sides are 30 cm tall. It is 60 cm long, inclusive of the strap. This bag will be available for CUSTOM ORDER - made especially for you, so if you like it please let me know  :)

Bag & matching brooch

Here it is; each one of my bags comes with a matching brooch! The brooch is a very versatile accessory; it can be used to secure the scarf, as an addition to a top or a jacket and I am thinking it can also be used as a hair accessory.
